Kathy graduated from Plymouth High School in 1957. She started a career in healthcare after graduation at the office of Dr. Clarence Bratt until she was married the following year to Duane Epp. Duane and Kathy joined St. John Lutheran Church in 1965 and served in many roles there.
During the early 970s, Kathy returned to the workplace as a part-time typist at Mennonite Hospital. She quickly grew into Bookkeeping, and in true Kathy style, her determination and perseverance led her to being the CFO, one of only three administrations at the time. Like many women of that era and even now, she did this all while raising a family and sending two sons to college. Kathy retired in February of 2006 and was surprised by a special retirement party that has always been a highlight for her.
Kathy has been very involved in the community and has served on multiple boards, including the Board of Directors for Beatrice Community Hospital and the Beatrice Community Hospital Foundation. Most recently, Kathy completed 19 years as the volunteer administrator of the Red Cross Blood Drive in Beatrice. She also participates as a volunteer for the hospital. She truly enjoys keeping in touch with the former and currently staff here.
Both Kathy and Duane were Stephens Ministers (trained spiritual counselors) at St. John Lutheran Church and continues visitation of several "shut in" members. She hs also served on the Church Board, continues to serve at funerals, leads women's circle, and sews blankets weekly.
If legacy is measured by the difference we make, the Kathy has set a standard that will inspire generations to come. This award is not just recognition, it is a reflection of a life well lived. Congratulations Kathy and thank you!
