Did you know that BCH Hospice has a volunteer that makes memory bears?
A BCH Hospice volunteer, who wishes to remain anonymous, has for several years made "memory bears" out of an article of clothing of hospice patients we serve. The bear is intended to be a keepsake for the family. Families are encouraged to select an article or articles of clothing that capture the spirit of their loved one and this is what our volunteer uses to make the bear. The impetus for this idea occured when our volunteer read an article about a couple in Oklahoma that was making "memory bears" and were overwhelmed with orders and also overwhelmed with numerous and very poignant letters thanking them for the memory bears. After reading this article our volunteer decided this was the best way she could help support families grieving the loss of their loved one and for the past 5 years she has been making memory bears upon request of the patient or families served by the BCH Hospice program. |
