2019-2020 Healthcare Grants Awards Announced

The Beatrice Community Hospital Foundation awards $191,623 in healthcare grants

The Beatrice Community Hospital Foundation this year is awarding nearly $192,000 in grants for both hospital and community projects.

The 2019 BCH Foundation Healthcare Grants were awarded with the intent of enhancing the medical and healthcare services in the region, Gina Heckey, BCH Foundation Senior Executive, said. Each of the grants awarded addresses issues of medical care, accessibility, transportation, the direct care environment and local healthcare education opportunities.

Seven grants were awarded to hospital departments to upgrade equipment and services. Five grants were awarded to community nonprofits to improve upon health and wellness challenges facing area residents.

“Making sure the medical care we offer is the best it can be is our first priority,” Rich Hovendick, president of the Foundation’s volunteer board of directors, said. “But we also recognize that maintaining good health in the community requires partnerships that enhance the healthcare of our area’s residents outside the hospital’s four walls. The medical and healthcare grants we are awarding reflect our commitment to our patients and to our community.”

When the BCH Foundation was originally formed, Heckey said, an endowment fund was established to address the ever-changing needs of healthcare in the area. Each year, some of the earnings from the endowment fund are distributed to fill local healthcare needs.

Changes were made this year, she said, to make the grant process more efficient. The Foundation will continue to accept applications from hospital departments and the community on an annual basis, with grants announced each October. Grant applications are available online at www.thebchfoundation.org  or by contacting the Foundation Office.

“As our endowment fund grows, so does the amount we can give back to the hospital and the community year after year,” Heckey said. “Funding these important projects in our area is the best way we can thank our donors. Their dedication to local healthcare is remarkable.”
